LESSON 14 – PRESENTING BABY JESUS TO THE TEMPLE
Lesson 14 – Presenting Baby Jesus to the Temple (Luke 2)
There was a man in the place who had known about the birth of Jesus even before the birth. Do you know who that is? His name was Simeon. He was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen Jesus Christ. So he came to the temple by the Spirit. That was the day when Joseph and Mary took their Son to the Jerusalem temple in order to present Him to the Lord according to the law of Moses.
Simeon took Him up in his arms and glorified God and said:
“LORD, NOW YOU ARE LETTING YOUR SERVANT DEPART IN PEACE, ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD; FOR MY EYES HAVE SEEN YOUR SALVATION WHICH YOU HAVE PREPARED BEFORE THE FACE OF ALL PEOPLES, A LIGHT TO BRING REVELATION TO THE GENTILES, AND THE GLORY OF YOUR
PEOPLE ISRAEL THEN SIMEON BLESSED THEM AND HE TOLD MARY, “A SWORD WILL PIERCE THROUGH YOUR OWN SOUL”
There was a prophetess named Anna in the temple. And coming there, she gave thanks to the Lord. When they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.
