LESSON 18 – IMPORTANCE OF WORSHIP IN CHURCH
Lesson 18 – Importance of Worship in Church
Have you seen your parents say some prayers before entering the church? Do you know what that is?
As church is the place where God resides, we should remove our shoes before entering the church. This is because the church is a holy place.
Secondly as we are standing before God, we should bow down our heads and show our respect towards God.
Thirdly, we should say this prayer:
We should say this wholeheartedly and make the sign of the cross. With a humble and devoted heart, we should stand before God, who created us.
Why should I go to church?
Most of us have a hard time making friends and getting along with the other kids. But church – whether Sunday services or Sunday School or Prayer Lines, we often go with our family even though sometimes when we really don’t feel like going.
When we frequently attend church we grow both spiritually and create a relationship with the church body. We get more involved as we grow older, and our love for Christ and His people grows stronger.
Going to church is important for both the spiritual and moral formation of a child. Children are under great influence from the world. Lies about sexuality, gender, and what dictates their identity are presented as truth. Sin—such as cheating and disobeying authority—is made attractive by social media influencers and peers.
Laying a biblical foundation through going to church gives your child truth to counter the lies during these impressionable years. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Is going to church as a family important?
Children whose parents go to church with them are more likely to stay in church as adults.
Our family grows closer by attending church together. My family is very close, and I attribute part of that to our common bond and love for church.
When you make church attendance a priority in your home, you’re doing so much more than checking a box off your Christian family to-do list. You’re acknowledging the value and need of Christian community to your kids that they will carry into adulthood.
Children will love what parents love.
How do I get excited about going to church?
Excitement is contagious, especially to children. Going to church is exciting. It’s a wonderful joy and privilege to worship God.
Sunday school is a fun way to get excited about church. Participate in events, make friends, help with the cleanup and you will have reasons to keep seeing everyone each week.
You don’t have to be perfectly dressed up for church always. Come in your play clothes to church, spread some jelly on the face, take a backpack full of crayons and coloring pages.
That’s okay!
The important thing is when kids are at church they observe the community and worship, and soak in the word of God being preached—even when it doesn’t seem like it. Children hear and comprehend so much more than we realize. They’re little sponges, soaking up every ounce of information around them.
