LESSON 2 – THE FIRST SIN
Lesson 2 – The First Sin (Genesis 3)
Adam and Eve lived in the beautiful Garden of Eden.
The serpent was a cunning creature. One day, he asked the woman a question, “Did God really tell you not to eat from any of the trees in this garden?”
“We may eat from all the trees except for the tree in the middle of the garden. We are not even to touch it or we’ll die!”
“Of course you will not die. God only said that because when you do eat from the tree your eyes will open, and you will become like God and know good and evil.”
The serpent convinced Eve to eat fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, even though God had told her and Adam not to. Eve took a bite and then shared it with Adam, who also ate the fruit.
Once they ate the fruit, they realized they were naked and felt ashamed. They made clothes out of fig leaves to cover themselves. When they heard God walking in the garden, they hid because they were scared. God called out to them, asking where they were. Adam said they hid because they were naked.
God knew they had eaten from the forbidden tree. Adam blamed Eve, and Eve blamed the serpent. God was not pleased and punished all three. He told the serpent it would crawl on its belly and be an enemy to humans. He told Eve she would have pain in childbirth and that Adam would have to work hard to grow food. Then God sent Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden so they could no longer eat from the tree of life and live forever.
Even though they disobeyed, God still loved Adam and Eve and provided for them, but they had to leave the perfect garden and live in the world outside.
As Satan could manipulate Eve and lead her to make mistakes, he can also cheat us and lead us through wrong paths. But through believing in God and following His path, we can overcome the tricks of Satan. Let the Holy Spirit help us to walk through the path of Jesus.
