LESSON 9 – NEWS REGARDING JESUS’ BIRTH

BEHOLD THE SERVANT OF THE LORD! MAY YOUR WORD TO ME BE FULFILLED.

Observe the picture shown above and try to identify the characters in the picture. What do we call the Mother of Jesus? We call her Mother Mary, Holy Mary, or Virgin Mary. Mary was born to a couple named Joachim and Anna, after their long-lasted prayer. As Mary was offered to the Church at a very young age, she grew up in the Church. She got engaged with Joseph, a righteous man who was a successor of David. One day, Gabriel, the messenger of God appeared before her. The messenger went near her.

Mary who received God’s blessings is not only Jesus’ mother, but she is our mother too. So, we should pray to Mother Mary to request Jesus to help us follow the path of the Holy Spirit. Similar to the incident where the Angel appeared before Mary, the Angel also appeared to Joseph, who was appointed to look after Jesus.

Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.

Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name ‘Immanuel’, which means ‘God with us’.

Then Joseph awoke from sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him. The righteous Joseph is Jesus’ stepfather.
