LESSON 13: Jesus’s Disciples
Lesson 13: Jesus’s Disciples
(Mathew 4:18-22)
Have you heard of famous leaders? Many people follow them because of their speeches and actions. Jesus, the Savior of the world, also had many followers called disciples. But Jesus didn’t wait for people to choose him as their leader. He carefully picked who he wanted to follow him.
Here’s how Jesus picked his disciples:
1. He prayed a lot before choosing them.
2. He didn’t look for people who were super smart or important. He picked regular people who were kind, humble, and loved God. Many of them were fishermen or tax collectors.
The twelve disciples were Peter, James, John, Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas (also called the twin), James (son of Alpheus), Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot (who later betrayed Jesus). Some of them were brothers, like Peter and Andrew, and James and John.
Jesus picked his disciples for a special job: to be with him, preach, and help cast out demons. Today, Jesus still chooses people to work for him, not just priests and preachers. No matter what job we do, if we do it with love and follow God’s will, we are his disciples too.
