LESSON 2: Abraham, the Father of Believers
Lesson 2: Abraham, the Father of Believers
Abraham was the son of Terah, who was a descendant of Noah. God chose Abraham to help save the world. At first, Abraham lived in a place called Haran (now in Turkey), and his name was Abram.
One day, God called Abram and said, “Leave your country, your relatives, and your father’s house, and go to a land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make your name famous so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse those who curse you. All the nations of the earth will be blessed through you and your descendants” (Genesis 12:1-3).
Abraham trusted God and obeyed. He took his wife Sarah, his nephew Lot (who was the son of his brother Haran), and all his animals, wealth, and people with him as they traveled.
Abraham showed love for his nephew Lot, even though Lot’s father (Abraham’s brother) had passed away. Abraham took care of him, which shows how much he cared for family. We should also love and care for our family members like Abraham did. Abraham traveled to the land of Canaan. God spoke to him again and said, “I will give you and your descendants all the land that you can see. It will belong to you forever” (Genesis 13:15). There, Abraham built an altar to the Lord and worshipped Him. This shows how thankful Abraham was to God for His promises and care.
Just like Abraham, we should be thankful to God. We can do this by praying every morning and evening, attending church on Sundays, and taking part in the Holy Qurbana (the Holy Communion). Like Abraham, we should offer our gratitude to God through the Holy Qurbana.
Abraham had great faith in God. He believed in God’s promises so much that he left his home and everything he knew. This is why Abraham is called the “Father of Believers.” He is a role model for all people who believe in God. Through Abraham, God created the nation of Israel.
When we face challenges or think about the future, we often feel worried or anxious. But when Abraham left his home for an unknown land, he trusted God completely and faced everything with confidence.
“Abraham believed God, and because of his faith, God accepted him as righteous.” (Romans 4:3)
