LESSON 11: JESUS TEMPTED BY SATAN
Lesson 11 – Jesus Tempted by Satan
After being baptized by John in the River Jordan, Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness. There, He fasted for forty days and forty nights. Afterward, He was hungry.
Then the tempter, Satan, came to Him and said, “If You are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.”
But Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Then the devil took Him to the holy city and had Him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If You are the Son of God,” he said, “throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command His angels concerning You, and they will lift You up in their hands, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’”
Jesus replied, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
Once again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give You,” he said, “if You will bow down and worship me.”
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.’”
Then the devil left Him, and angels came and attended to Him.
Just as Satan tempted our Savior, he will also try to tempt us. But we must stand firm in God’s Word and resist him.
Let us sing a new song:
Satan, you go! Satan, you go!
Do not try to mislead my way.
I am a child of God! (2x)

Note to Teachers:
- Students must understand that Satan often tempts us through food, wealth, power (responsibilities), and beauty.
- To try and defeat Jesus, Satan even used the words of God. Similarly, when we face such situations in our lives, we must rely on the Holy Spirit and the Word of God to resist and destroy Satan’s plans. Therefore, it is essential for students to learn Bible verses.
- Students should also recognize that overcoming Satan’s temptations requires continuous prayer, fasting, daily reading of the Bible, Holy Confession, and participation in the Holy Qurbana.
