LESSON 14: PETER WITNESSES JESUS
Lesson 14 – Peter Witnesses Jesus
Many people gathered to listen to Jesus’ speech. Among them were the lame, blind, and people with leprosy. Jesus touched and cured people who were believed to be impure.
- He satisfied the hunger of five thousand (5,000) people who came to listen to His speech with five breads and two fish.
- He made them understand the kingdom of heaven through examples.
- He conveyed that He is the Son of God by telling the crowd about how He walked over the sea and how He commanded the breeze and the sea.
- He cured the paralyzed and raised a person from death.
Many such miracles were done by Jesus. Hearing this, the people believed that He was John the Baptist or Prophet Jeremiah or one among the prophets.
Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say I am?”
Peter said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Jesus replied to Peter saying,
- Blessed are you, Simon, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
- And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
- I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.
- Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven.
- Whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
It is with this power that Peter, the head of the Apostles, that our sins are forgiven by the priest during Holy Confession.
