LESSON 17: THE HOLY BIBLE
LESSON 17. THE HOLY BIBLE
Do you have a Holy Bible of your own? How often do you read it?
It is through the Holy Bible that we get knowledge about the Holy God. We can call the Holy Bible the Bible or the Word of God. It is through the Bible verses that we learn about God. Also, God speaks to us through the Bible.
The Bible is divided into The Old Testament and The New Testament.
The Old Testament
- 39 books in total
- Book of Genesis to Book of Malachi
- God speaks to us through the Prophets, Judges, and Priests.
The New Testament
- 27 books in total
- Gospel of Matthew to the book of Revelation
- God speaks to us through Jesus Christ.
(It is helpful for students to memorize Psalms: 1.)
PSALMS CHAPTER 1 – WISDOM PSALM
1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his Law Day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither — whatever they do prospers. 4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
Psalms Chapter 1 is also known as Wisdom Psalm. It tells us what God expects from us as a true believer. In this, we can see the union of the focal points of practical life in the eyes of Spirituality.
This chapter portrays the values a good person should have:
- A tree which has ripened fruits, whose leaves have not withered represents a man who walks through righteousness.
- He does not walk with the wicked, does not stand in the way that sinners take, does not sit in the company of mockers.
- He delights in the law of the Lord and meditates on His law day and night.
- He accepts God’s laws as the laws of life and will lead a peaceful life.
Abiding by the laws would mean we do not do what is not expected, likewise we should do the expected at the expected time and through expected ways. That person is like a tree that is planted by streams of water, whose roots have gone deeper, whose leaves do not wither, and yield its fruit in season. He will be filled with the Fruits of Spirit which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The wicked are not like this, their way will lead to destruction.
