LESSON 4: THE BIRTH OF MOSES
Lesson 4 – The Birth of Moses
Jacob had twelve sons: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Joseph, and Benjamin.
Although the lives of Jacob and his sons came to an end, their descendants were fruitful, increased abundantly, and multiplied until the land was filled with them. Then a new king arose over Egypt who did not know Joseph. He made the people labor under harsh conditions to oppress and weaken them.

The king sought another way to destroy the Hebrew generations. He spoke to the Hebrew midwives and commanded them, “When you assist the Hebrew women in childbirth, if it is a son, you shall kill him.” But the midwives feared God and did not obey the king’s command
Then the king decreed, “Every son who is born shall be cast into the river, but every daughter shall be kept alive.”
During this time, a son was born to a family from the tribe of Levi. The child was so beautiful that his parents could not bear to cast him into the river. They hid him for three months. When they could no longer keep him hidden, they made a basket of bulrushes, coated it with asphalt and pitch, placed the child inside, and laid it among the reeds by the riverbank. His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him.
Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe in the river. When she saw the basket among the reeds, she opened it and found the baby inside. Moved with compassion, she recognized that he was a Hebrew child. Then his sister approached Pharaoh’s daughter and asked, “Shall I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women so she may nurse the child for you?”
Pharaoh’s daughter agreed, and the maiden brought the child’s own mother. Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child and nurse him for me, and I will pay you wages.”

The child’s mother nursed him, and when he grew older, she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, “Because I drew him out of the water.” This was a miracle from God. Even when we are surrounded by enemies, God protects us. He has a plan to save us from the deception of Satan. Let us praise Him! Let us sing with thanksgiving in Jesus’ name!
